Birthday thank you notes are recommended for large or special birthdays; usually the most notable ones
being the milestone birthdays ending in 5 or 0. In addition to expressing thanks for the gift, a thank you
note should also thank the person for attending the party, kindness and consideration shown at the party, or
any other favors that the friend did for the party or otherwise. A thank you note should detail why you love
the gift, how it is being appreciated and used, and how it sits apart from other gifts. If you got a gift
card, you should state how you plan on using it.
Birthday thank you notes are typically sent within a week after the birthday has passed. It can take two to
three weeks if the birthday celebrator is extremely busy, but it should not be delayed any later than that.
A birthday thank you note is generally less formal than wedding or confirmaion thank you notes, for example,
but its timeliness is especially important. Ideally, it should be sent a few days after the birthday.
A thank you note for a birthday gift can be a great way to reconnect with someone you love but haven’t had much
contact with. Your friend has put in the effort by going to your birthday party and bringing a gift, and will
love the fact that you acknowledge the friendship with a personal note.
A birthday thank you note should start with a personal addressing of the giver. If you have a nickname, you
might want to use that as the greeting name. Then thank them for the gift, which should be named and described
with as much excitement as you can muster. Following that, a description of how it is being enjoyed is often
included. Most other aspects of the thank you note can be whatever you like, but it should stay positive,
stay focused on your loved one that you are thanking, and should conclude with a repetition of your gratitude.
