You probably received several gifts at your wedding shower. Your friends and family are helping to make
your new house a home with their gifts, and it's a great idea to let them know how much you appreciate their
thoughtfulness.
Each guest should get a thank you note for coming regardless of whether or not she brought a gift. Ideally
cards are sent within two weeks of the shower (but a late thank you is better than no thank you). Remember
to thank the hostess (often the maid of honor) for planning the shower. Mention the specific gift and give
it and/or the sender a specific compliment; describe specifically how you plan to use the gift they gave.
Tell what you plan to buy with gift cards. People want to know that their wedding shower gift is being used
and appreciated. Let them know how much you and your fiance appreciate their gift.
Don’t combine the bridal shower card with other wedding related cards. Even if a particular friend sent an
engagement gift, brought a bridal shower gift, and then sent you your wedding gift early, each act of kindness
and gift gets its own note. The only exception is the "thank you for coming" card, which is generally combined
with athe attendant gift thank you (“…thank you for coming to the bridal shower and the lovely nightgown”).
Your bridal shower thank you cards do not have to be long to be effective. Even if the wedding gift arrives
early and you are in the midst of writing a thank you note for the dishes you received, resist the urge to throw
in a line of thanks for the wedding gift. Spending the extra time to thank express thanks with individual notes
is the best way to show your appreciation.
It’s a good idea to save the gift tags and write what the gift is on the back with a note (be sure to keep track
of the gifts one way or another). Then use these when you write the cards. Place any card that came with each
gift by the gift, or just have someone write down who gave each present at the wedding shower. These things will
make writing your thank you notes that much easier.
It is never acceptable to send a thank you card in the form of a text message or an email. Even if your bridesmaid
seems physically attached to her cell phone, she will probably not appreciate a quickly typed email or text.
" Thank you so much for organizing my bridal shower. Everyone loved it - especially the bridal shower games you invented. It was so sweet of you to take on such an enormous task. A huge thank you also for the crystal cake tray; it is absolutely stunning and I am sure to get lots of use out of it."
